Whilst a work that concentrates on trains and their operation may seem like one not worth obtaining, the chapter on Staff alone makes this book worth getting. The
roles of various staff found on a rural railway (such as level crossing keepers and Permanent Way staff) are explained in detail.
Appendices include an example of the accounts of the line (for the year 1893/4) and one on the Valencia Slate Quarry.
